A random series is often described as a white noise process, for a frequency analysis of a random series (via SPECTRA) shows that, by analogy with white light, all frequencies enter equally. On the other hand, nonrandom series can be characterized by a predominance of low frequencies, or a predominance of high frequencies, or a predominance of one or more particular frequencies corresponding to periodicities in the series.
